A brief history of Connect Group

Connect Group was founded in 2006 after splitting from WH Smith. We’re a new, growing and forward-looking PLC but with plenty of heritage that dates back to 1972.

2006

WH Smith News splits from WH Smith PLC, forming Smiths News PLC.

2009

Smiths News PLC buys Bertram Books.

2011

Smiths News PLC buys Dawson Holdings expanding into the academic books market.

2012

Smiths News PLC buys The Consortium expanding into the education and care markets.

2012

Wordery, the online bookshop is launched.

2014

Jack’s Beans Coffee Company is launched.

2014

Smiths News PLC is re-branded Connect Group PLC.

2014

Pass My Parcel, a send, collect and returns parcel delivery service is launched with Amazon as its first client.

2014

Connect Group buys Tuffnells Parcels Express.

2017

The Education & Care division is sold to RM PLC.

2017

The integration of Smiths News, Tuffnells and the corporate centre is announced.
